what if you perform a ping ABC from your commandline?
Is ABC visible from your client? Does your DNS resolve ABC correctly? Is
there a (private) firewall in place?
Can you perform a 'telnet ABC 1521 ', to test whether port 1521 on ABC
can be reached?
